Taranaki motorists and visitors will be delighted that Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is planning a bumper programme of works over summer to bring the region’s state highways up to scratch.
It’s also launched an interactive map showing where and when roading contractors will be at work, to help you plan your journeys and factor in any delays. Alongside the map is a table listing project locations and scheduled timing. See it all at www.bit.ly/TaranakiSH(external link)
“A lot of maintenance had to be deferred this year because of COVID-19,” says Taranaki Regional Councillor Matthew McDonald, who chairs the Regional Transport Committee.
“There’s a lot of wear and tear on the highways, so a busy schedule of summer roadworks is good news. We can all help the work go smoothly by driving carefully through work sites, sticking to temporary speed limits and showing consideration for the hard-working roading crews.
"I strongly recommend using Waka Kotahi’s map when planning summer trips around the region.”
