Pest management review - final decisions

The Proposed Pest Management Plan for Taranaki and the Draft Taranaki Regional Council Biosecurity Strategy have been through a public consultation and public hearing process and the Council has made its final decisions on both documents.

After public notification of the Council’s decisions (on 4 November 2017), submitters have 15 working days to refer any matters to the Environment Court. When this process reaches a conclusion, the Plan and Strategy will be formally adopted and the public notified.

The decisions document, the post-hearing versions of the Plan and Strategy, and supporting documentation, are available on this page for viewing and downloading.

The process in detail

The Proposed Regional Pest Management Plan for Taranaki and the Draft Taranaki Regional Council Biosecurity Strategy were publicly notified for submissions on 20 May 2017. By the closing date of 30 June 2017, 10 submissions had been received. A Summary of Submissions and Officers’ Report were prepared.

On 17 October 2017, a Hearing Committee was convened by the Council to hear oral submissions in addition to the written submissions already considered. The Hearing Committee adopted many of the recommendations contained within the Officers’ Report and presented its report and recommendations, including the amended Plan and Strategy, to the Council’s 31 October 2017 Ordinary meeting.

The Council considered and adopted the Hearing Committee’s recommendations and agreed to adopt both the Plan and the Strategy. Tthe Council must notify all submitters, and the public, of the decisions taken by the Council in respect of the Plan, and the reasons for those decisions. The Council’s Decision Report has been completed.

The Plan and Strategy documents have been updated in line with the Council’s decisions, and minor grammatical or other changes have been made. The documents are available on this page for viewing and downloading.
