Feedlots and other stockholding areas will need to meet a series of minimum standards concerning permeability, effluent management, and proximity to water bodies including drains.
Feedpads, feedlots and stock holding areas
If the standards cannot be met, a resource consent will be required from 1 July 2021.
Existing use rights may apply for current stockholding areas until 31 December 2021.

Any new feedlots or stock lots built from 3 September 2020 must comply with the permitted activity standards [see the TRC factsheet [PDF, 753 KB] which includes a flowchart to help understand whether or not this applies to you].

In 2021, TRC is checking stockholding areas and feedlots for compliance with new regulations through annual dairy inspections.
