Two of New Zealand’s greatest assets are
our
100% in support of the Opunake Hydro Lake to remove
built up silt, from the lake, river and dam so that the lake will
operate in a correct manner. This will involve the spill at
Opunake Beach and the maintenance of the hydro lake. The
Lake is a great asset to Opunake and is a popular place for the
community and visitors to Opunake. It is also a sanctuary for
bird life and fish species, many of these are native to New
Zealand. Please help us get our once lovely lake back to a clean
and pristine
regenerating
native vegetation. The lake and its surrounds, and the Meeting of the Waters Scenic Reserve provide valuable
recreational assets to the district, including scenic walks, mountain biking, horse riding, water sports, fishing,
sightseeing, and picnic areas for visitors. These natural and man-made landscapes have a range of qualities
associated with water and vegetation that enhance the visual amenity of the surrounds and the experience for
the general public.
