Council can also make rules relating to soil conservation and control of
discharges on land. However, these are regulated by other regional plans. Therefore, the
rules of this Plan apply only in the coastal marine area, but the Plan does include other
methods with regard to the landward part of the coastal environment. The many
agencies that have a role in management of the coast are shown in Figure 3.

What's wrong with nutrients in streams?
Nutrients, including the elements nitrogen and
phosphorus, are essential for plant growth and soil
biological activity. On land or of themselves, nutrients
are not a problem (only rarely will the concentration of
nutrients be such that it will result in ammonia toxicity).
The problem with excessive nutrient enrichment is how the
nutrients may affect the physicochemical and biological
condition of water once they escape or seep

analysis. It was noted by the lab that
there were a number of stones in the sample which were removed before grinding the wood waste for
analysis, however small particles of soil and stone that were unable to be removed may have contributed to
the amount detected. Overall the results of the follow-up sample indicated that it was unlikely that there
was CCAB treated wood waste in the fill.
2.1.3 Results of receiving environment monitoring
During the monitoring period samples were collected on
Road at Inglewood, in the Waitara catchment. The sole source of the wood waste is
from the Company’s sawmilling operation in Inglewood. The Company sells most of its
woodchip and sawdust as calf litter. The remaining material consisting of bark, soil and soiled
woodchip/sawdust is sent to the Bristol Road site for disposal.
