Todd Petroleum provided the Council with an annual report on flaring and emissions during the 2021-2022
period, as required by consent 4054-6.1. During the 2021-2022 period the Kapuni-J wellsites were bought
online, with well testing undertaken between December 2021 and
protect and restore the environment. Waitara High School head student Nicola Stanton is finding real-world solutions to environmental problems. Her many projects have helped rangatahi to understand the environment and the importance of sustainability. Nicola has turned wool into water filters to stop fat and oil from clogging up the school’s wastewater systems. Nicola is working with her sister Jessica to apply for funding to expand the project so more people can use the wool filters. She also

Drilling fluids
Oil and gas wells may be drilled with either synthetic based mud (SBM) or water based mud (WBM). As the
names suggest, these are fluids with either water (fresh or saline) or synthetic oil as a base material, to which
further compounds are added to modify the physical characteristics of the mud (for example mud weight or

Todd Generation Taranaki Ltd (the Company) operates the McKee Power Plant on Otaraoa Road near
Tikorangi, bridging the Waitara and Onaero catchments. Located to the south of the McKee Production
Station (which processes oil and gas from the McKee and Mangahewa groups of wellsites), the McKee
Power Plant was completed and commissioned during the 2012-2014 period. The 100 MW electricity
generating facility provides both peak and base load power for the national grid.
