Navigating Taranaki by bus just got a whole lot easier thanks to a smart new app called Transit. A real-time tracking app is now available for Taranaki bus services - in what’s being called a game-changer for public transport in the region. Taranaki Regional Council has announced Transit as the official public transport app for Taranaki bus services and is encouraging users to download the free app. Upon launching the app, Taranaki bus riders see nearby bus options and departure times in big
accessible – no steps. Wheelchairs on buses must not take up a space of more than 700mm wide and 1200mm long or have a chair/passenger combined weight of more than 240kg. If a passenger in a wheelchair cannot get on a bus and pay their fare themselves, they must be assisted by a support person. There are no restraints for wheelchairs, so brakes must be on at all times while travelling. Starting from Tuesday 12 March, there are some important updates to bus routes 6 - Vogeltown/Brooklands, 8 - Merrilands/Highlands Park and the Connector - Hāwera to New Plymouth. Changes include the following: Route 6 - Vogeltown/Brooklands: The Exteter/Somerset/Kaimata Street loop has been removed to provide a more direct bus service. Alternative stops include St Pius school and Brooklands Road (near #70). You can hail and ride this bus service for added convenience!
