Waitara River catchments. Trustpower draws water from behind a weir on the
Manganui River near Tariki and diverts this water through a race to Lake Ratapiko and then through
penstocks to the Motukawa Power Station. The power station discharges into the Makara Stream, a
tributary of the Waitara River. Consents for the Motukawa HEP scheme allow Taranaki Generation Ltd to
maintain structures, to take, divert and discharge water, and to disturb the bed of Lake Ratapiko. This report

subdivisions of allotments under four hectares are required to have esplanade reserves of 20 metres width
created along the edge of any river and lake, or the coast. This requirement may be waived or modified by
either a rule in district plan, or by resource consent. There is no default requirement for an esplanade reserve
when allotments over four hectares are subdivided. However, requirements may result from a rule in a plan.

The Waiwhakaiho River catchment is significant for the Taranaki region. It is used for domestic, agricultural
and industrial
both probability and consequence.
12. The Regional Council has the responsibility to grant consent for an
