GPL holds water abstraction permit 5384-2 to take groundwater from the
Matemateaonga Formation for use in enhanced hydrocarbon recovery activities at the
Kaimiro-O wellsite. This permit was first issued by the Council on 18 September 1998
under Section 87(e) of the RMA. It was renewed during the monitoring period, on 24
July 2014. It is due to expire on 1 June 2032.

Water Permit 4455-1 allows the take and use of up to 19,440 m3/day (225 L/s averaged over 15 minutes) of

Water permit 5437-3 covers the take and use of water from the Waingongoro River for stock drinking, yard
wash down and miscellaneous purposes. This permit was issued by the Taranaki Regional Council on 7 July
2012 under Section 87(d) of the RMA. It is due to expire on 1 June 2029. The review condition was exercised
during the monitoring period, as recommended in the
on recommendations in US EPA (2002). The procedure was:
a. A random number generator was used to generate two random numbers
between 0 and 1.
b. The random numbers were converted into co-ordinates by multiplying them by
the width and length of the site being investigated. Because the sampling
area had an irregular shape, randomly generated points falling outside of the
sample area were not used.
The above process was continued until the required number of sampling
falling within the “Alert” or “Action”
categories was almost half that of the previous season. Of note, very few high counts were
recorded during the 2010-2011 season. Fewer exceedances of MfE guidelines (‘Alert’ and
‘Action’) modes were coincidental with drier early season conditions and a reduction in
dairy shed pond systems treated wastes discharge rates noted from field inspections during
that time.
One site (Waimoku Stream at Oakura beach) continued to record all of its single samples in
