Operations Officer as Primary Group Recovery Manager to the end of
June 2020. This appointment was extended until 31 December at the Joint Committee’s
meeting on the 21 May 2020. Local Controllers for all the Territorial Councils have also been
appointed by the Joint Committee.
On the 8 April 2020 the Group Recovery Manager and Group Controller meet to begin
regional planning for recovery and the establishment of a Recovery Team and a wider

KEY NATIVE ECOSYSTEMS
While all remnant bush, wetlands and dune-lands are important, the Taranaki
Regional Council has a voluntary process for identifying the ‘jewels in our
biodiversity crown’. These ‘jewels’ are called ‘Key Native Ecosystems’ and have
been assessed as having indigenous biodiversity values of regional significance
to Taranaki. At April 2021, 323 Key Native Ecosystems had been identified.
