A temporary fisheries notice is in place in Western Taranaki from the mouth of the Tapuae Stream in the north to the mouth of the Taungatara Stream in the south.
This relates to all shellfish (except rock lobster), all seaweed (except beach cast seaweed), all sea anemones, all stingrays, and conger eel species (Conger wilsoni and Conger verreauxi) and applies from 16 December 2024 to 15 December 2026.
The rāhui is in place following a notice from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, under section 186A of the Fisheries Act, and follows a request by the Taranaki rāhui iwi group to extend the temporary closure in the area.
