Information about using your ID card and using the Total Mobility scheme locally and around the country.
Where can my ID swipe card be used?
Your ID swipe card can be used for travel anywhere within the Taranaki region where an approved Total Mobility transport provider operates.
There is a Stratford-based provider, a Hāwera-based operator, three taxi operators in New Plymouth (covering Waitara and Bell Block) and two New Plymouth-based companion driving services, Driving Miss Daisy and Freedom Companion Driving Service. A maximum subsidy of $20 applies for each one-way trip.
Can I use the Total Mobility scheme in other parts of New Zealand?
The Scheme is available in the Taranaki region and throughout many other centres in New Zealand. It is administered at a local level by participating regional councils who approve qualifying transport operators. Please note not all transport operators are approved Scheme providers.
The use of the magnetic stripe TM card is not available in all regions but is available in the major cities (Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin).
In the few regions where vouchers are still being used, you will need ‘out of region’ vouchers. Contact the Total Mobility team on 0800 868 662 at least 10 working days in advance to discuss your requirements.
Trips are subject to the local maximum subsidy in the region you are visiting. Download 'Total Mobility around New Zealand' for information about Total Mobility throughout New Zealand, or phone the Total Mobility team on 0800 868 662 for assistance.
Your pre-travel ‘out of region’ checklist:
- Check that the transport operator is part of the Total Mobility Scheme.
- Check whether they accept the TM swipe cards or vouchers.
- If vouchers, contact the Total Mobility team at least 10 days before travelling to request that vouchers be posted to you.
