The Council is also confident about its plans to build on recent gains in freshwater quality; to develop its
education programme; and to broaden and deepen its relationship with iwi and hapū.
Financially, the impact of our proposals is relatively minor. There is an increase of 4.5 percent in the general
rates take for 2018/2019. In the last three years, the average general rates
application it is just easier as the environmental effects are more known.
3.4 Letters have been sent to Consent holders with renewals coming up in 2021 to
encourage them to start engaging with iwi now.
3.5 It was noted that the way the outcomes of consultation with iwi is recorded has been
in place for a few years now and it was suggested that it could be time to review that
process to ensure more meaningful information.

GIS Specialist – Wetland Project
Purpose | Te arotahi mātua
The GIS Specialist – Wetland Project is responsible for working collaboratively with the
Environment Services team, GIS team and Taranaki Catchment Communities to support the project
to map the location of Taranaki’s wetlands.
The role of the GIS Specialist – Wetland Project is to visualise, question, analyse and interpret data
to understand relationships, patterns and trends, as well as design, develop
Legislation Amendment Act 2017 (the Act) that
became law on 18 April 2017.
2.2 Mr McLay noted to the Committee some of the changes to the Resource Management
Act 1991 (RMA), including the removal of the financial contributions provisions in five
years and the immediate introduction of provisions allowing discussions on Iwi
Participation Agreements between iwi authorities and the Council to occur, that
address iwi input to resource management. It was noted a review of iwi input to
conditioner, subject to the following conditions.
