the Government’s vision and priorities
for rail. The long-term vision is for New Zealand’s national rail network to
provide modern transit systems in our largest cities, and to enable
increasing volumes of freight to be moved off the roads and onto rail.
Rail freight is not covered under the Regional Public Transport Plan.

Methods
The wider public provided feedback through a public survey and the commercial, rural, community
and key stakeholder groups were invited to a series of workshops held across the region and
virtually. The workshops were a mix of the different stakeholder groups to discrouage ‘group-think’
in vision and goal building.
Iwi and Hapū are also being consulted with on a 1:1 engagement pathway at this stage. We have
utlised a similar structure to the stakeholder workshops
inform long-term goal setting that reflects community expectations. “We really encourage our community to take part as the more perspectives we get, the better.” The survey has already received over 50 submissions and is available on the Council website at www.trc.govt.nz/vision until the end of April.
