From the regional perspective, for seismic surveys within the CMA, most regional coastal
plans are silent on provisions for the activity, one would suspect because, until recently,
no offshore seismic surveys have been proposed for their respective CMAs and hence, at
the time of writing the current plans, crystal ball gazing did not extend to that activity.

Water abstraction permits
Section 14 of the RMA stipulates that no person may take, use, dam or divert any water, unless the activity is
expressly allowed for by a resource consent or a rule in a regional plan, or it falls within some particular
categories set out in Section 14. Permits authorising the abstraction of water are issued by the Council
under Section 87(d) of the RMA.

The Company holds water permit 1795-4 to cover the taking of water from the Waiaua River in association
with the Opunake hydroelectric power scheme. This permit was issued by the Council on 13 October 2006
under Section 87(d) of the RMA. It is due to expire on 1 June 2018.
