1. Climate Justice Taranaki Incorporated (CJT) welcome the opportunity to submit on Remediation (NZ)
Ltd’s discharge consent applications1 associated with their composting and vermiculture operation on
Mokau Road at Uruti in the Mimi catchment.
2. CJT note Council’s environmental effects assessment which determined public notification of the
applications: “The discharges result from a large scale waste management operation. The operation
involves storage
moderate to high and there was adequate
flow down the fish pass. The weir and fish pass were in good condition and NPDC advised that some rocks
on the fish pass were to be replaced during lower flows. The intake pipes have been sealed with concrete
but the flow meter was still recording 5 m3/hr. NPDC can’t establish the reason for this. There was a trickle of
overflow from the settling ponds.

The contingency/farm supply at the top of Dudley Road was inspected with no issues

1.4.5 Surface water quality monitoring
The Piakau Stream runs west to east, approximately 250 m south of the southern boundary of the Radnor-B
wellsite at its closest point. A roadside drain runs north-west to south-east along Mountain Road, past the
wellsite and joins the Piakau Stream immediately upstream of a road culvert.

Executive summary
The New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) operates a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)
located on Lincoln Road at Inglewood, in the Kurapete catchment. This report for the period July 2022 to
June 2023 describes the monitoring programme implemented by the Taranaki Regional Council (the
Council) to assess NPDC’s environmental and consent compliance performance during the period under
