intense rainfall on 19 and 20 June resulted in
widespread flooding and slips and severe
disruptions to roading and electricity networks
throughout Taranaki. A Civil Defence State Of
Emergency was declared at 9pm on Saturday
20 June, and remained in place for a week.
The heaviest rain was in inland South Taranaki
but throughout the region, about 60 local roads
were blocked by slips and washouts and in at
least one case, repairs are expected to take

Council (NPDC) maintains two reinstated landfills, one at
Inglewood and one at Okato. Both landfills have been used in the past, and are now used as
transfer stations, and are held in reserve to accept refuse, if required, as a contingency. The
Inglewood landfill is located on King Road at Inglewood, in the Waiongana catchment, and
the Okato landfill is located on Hampton Road at Okato, in the Kaihihi catchment.
NPDC also maintains two closed landfills; Okoki landfill in the Urenui catchment,
small number of dwellings to the north and northwest of the
site between 1,600 and 1,900 metres from the main composting
operation. However, areas closer to the road are used for wastewater
irrigation, with the closest field being approximately 500 metres from the
nearest receptor.
3.5 In terms of the site location relative to the closest receptors, the
composting and vermiculture facility is located well away from any
sensitive receptors. It is at sufficient distance
identified on your aerial photograph or map:
