to Kaipikari Road Forest Remnants KNE and Hickman Road (Luxton) KNE.
Ecological Features
Flora
This covenanted area contains a good quality example of semi coastal/lowland mixed tawa forest
(WF13). Less than 20% of this type of forest remains in the Taranaki region. Some of the forest is mature
with a canopy consisting of tawa, miro, pukatea,
regionalised approach to
waste disposal and the site is now currently a potential option as the replacement regional landfill once the
facility at Colson Road, New Plymouth has reached capacity. The management of the delivery and operation
of the facility, and the associated consents were transferred to New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) during
the year under review. The Colson Road landfill closed to general waste in August 2019. However the use of
the Central Landfill was put on hold and
rendering operation located on Kohiti
Road at Okaiawa, in the Inaha catchment. Two rendering plants operate on the site: an inedibles plant
owned by the TBP, and a food grade plant owned by Taranaki Bio-Extracts Ltd (TBE). A trucking firm,
Jackson Transport Ltd (JTL), previously owned by TBP, also operate from the site.
During the monitoring period, TBP demonstrated an overall good level of environmental
performance.

Greymouth Petroleum Ltd (the Company) operates the Turangi Production Station located on Turangi Road
at Motunui, in the Parahaki catchment. The Turangi Production Station processes oil and gas from from the
Company’s northern Taranaki operations, including the Ohanga, Onaero and Turangi group of wellsites. The
Company also operate the Kowhai-A Production Station, located on Ngatimaru Road at Tikorangi. The

from Maui-B is piped 15 km to Maui-A for initial separation, and then to the
production station.
The Maui Production Station separates the various hydrocarbon components, mainly by distillation. The
production station supplies natural gas to the national grid and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is transported
off-site by road tankers. Condensate is piped to storage tanks at Omata.
Facilities at the Maui Production Station include: an administration building and workshop which
accommodates
records began on 1 July 2002. The fact that so
few limits were breached indicates very good management of the scheme.
There are certain operational requirements also set by consents, which require flushing flows of 400 L/s to
be released down the residual flow reach once the Tariki Weir has not naturally overtopped for 30 days, and
that once flows in the Waitara River at the Bertrand Road bridge drop below 5,000 L/s that either the
abstracted water is passed continuously through the lake, or
