FOREWORD
Taranaki Regional Council established the State Highway 3 Working Group in 2002 in response to
ongoing concerns about the route security, safety and efficiency of the section of State Highway 3 (SH3)
between Taranaki and Waikato. In particular, there has been a focus on the section of SH3 between
Piopio and New Plymouth.
For some years this section of the state highway network has been of considerable concern to local
Taranaki and Waikato communities, as
suggested vision is this: A vibrant, resilient and connected region, with safe roads enhancing
liveable places.
Does this match your vision? Can you suggest a better vision? Let us know. Go to
www.trc.govt.nz/transport21 and make a submission.

WHAT ARE OUR IMMEDIATE PRIORITIES?
Our Draft Regional Land Transport Plan lists major upcoming roading projects in this order of funding
Are you a bus user or would like to start using public transport? Or is road safety and how speed is managed something you want to talk about? Taranaki Regional Council has launched a wide-ranging community conversation giving everyone in the region the chance to have a say on the future of transport with the views helping to shape public transport, cycling and walking, road speeds and safety. and promoting sustainability. Council Chair Charlotte Littlewood says the awards are an excellent way of saying thanks to the unsung heroes who are leading by example and giving so much back to their communities and the region through their work. “It’s always one of the highlights of the year to see who has won an award and to find out about their mahi and how that is making a difference to Taranaki,” says Mrs Littlewood. “And this fantastic work is being done across the generations and by people
demonstrating environmental leadership, teachers and staff at schools and early learning centres and climate action campaigners. Council Chair Charlotte Littlewood says the quality of entries each year shows that there are so many unsung heroes across the region who are devoting their time and energy to improving the environment and the awards are a fantastic way of spotlighting this work. “Our mission is to work with our community and care for Taranaki and we’re always delighted to see the award
we’ll
be working closer with the three district councils
in our region to take a region-wide approach to
planning. The goal is to eventually put together a
‘Taranaki plan’ that will guide how all the councils
plan for the future of our region.
