Valleys tend to channel emissions, preventing
dispersion. Katabatic drift (the movement of air at
night as it cools down) tends to flow down slopes, and
can carry long distances.

These should be constructed of impervious material,
and large enough to allow clean out of shed litter and
loading for transport off site, without litter falling onto
soil, surrounding gravel surfaces, or into any water or
drainage

June 2014 describes the monitoring programme implemented by the Taranaki Regional
Council (the Council) to assess the Company’s environmental performance during the period
under review, and the results and environmental effects of the Company’s activities.
The Company holds nine resource consents, which include a total of 112 conditions setting out
Taranaki District Council (STDC) operates a green waste disposal area located on Beach Road at Patea
Beach. The site was established as a public facility that could accept green waste for sand dune stabilisation
purposes. The site is consented to accept green waste from the Patea community and from STDC’s kerbside
and transfer station collection. This report for the period July 2017 to June 2018 describes the monitoring
programme implemented by the Taranaki Regional Council (the Council) to assess
disposal at Colson
Road landfill and the excavation backfilled with clean imported soil.
The discovery of the chemical residues has raised concerns within the community that there could be general dioxin
and other contamination within the landfill and that this contamination could also be affecting the surface of the park.
Park users are concerned that they or their children might be exposed to such contamination in their day-to-day use of
the park.

busy shops and car-parks including The Warehouse, New World supermarket, KFC
fast foods outlet, and several others (see Appendix I). This location was also in close
proximity to previous two PM10 sampling sites, to allow comparison with data from
previous studies. Figure 2 shows the location of the monitoring site in relation to the
residential areas to the south.

1.1.1 Introduction
This report is for the period July 2020 to June 2021 by the Council and describes the results of the
monitoring programme associated with an air discharge permit held by New Plymouth District Council
(NPDC) to cover emissions to air from NPDC’s crematorium on Junction Road (State Highway 3), 5 km south
of New Plymouth.
Since 1 October 1991, with the enactment of the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA), the Council has

Instream habitat was surveyed in a 2.5 km reach of the Waitara River on 18/2/20 when the flow was
5.1 m3/s. The reach was between Bertrand Road (39 2.946S 174 15.279N) and Methanex’s Motonui
Plant water intake (39 3.072S 174 16.124N) and is about 8.5 km from the sea. For most of the reach,
the river flowed against a steep boulder lined right bank and the other bank was a gently sloping
bank comprising a mixture of gravel, cobble, and boulders.
