Amendment to the RMA to provide local authorities with the express function of
“maintaining biodiversity”; and
A major policy and consultation process looking at biodiversity and private land, and the
value of a National Policy Statement (NPS) on biodiversity to guide and direct decision-
making under the RMA.
The NZBS contains 147 actions most falling to central
government agencies and territorial authorities and regional
councils. Territorial
in Table 1 below are regarded as that – guidelines, which represent the best
estimate for three typical application types. Buffer zones, with or without shelter belts, merely provide an opportunity
for concentrations of agrichemicals to fall sufficiently so that the risk to sensitive areas beyond the buffer zone
becomes acceptable (i.e. environmental exposure levels are not exceeded). Depending on the particular
circumstances however, there is no guarantee that this can be
able to drink directly from
the stream then they will not be exposed to
liver fluke.
Streambank fences enable easier stock
control when mustering, keep sick stock
out of streams, and reduce stock deaths by
drowning, falling down steep banks, or
getting bogged.
Trees on banks, as well as shading and
sheltering stock in the adjacent paddock,
provide timber for on-farm use if they’re
silviculturally managed.
Farmers and their families don’t just get a
farm landscape that’s enhanced

mixed and dispersed. Any effects on groundwater quality or coastal water quality would be negligible. In
general, the creation of stable interlocked layers of green waste ensures that it does not fall off, or get
blown off the cliffs and down onto the coastal marine area or into the sea.
From observations made during the inspection of the site no adverse environmental effects were found, or
were expected to have been occurring, as a result of the activity authorised by consent 7374-1.4.
discharge points to the stream were observed, with no effects evident in the stream as a result of
stormwater discharging offsite.
A new flare stack had been installed to flare natural gas venting from the hydrocarbon storage tanks. The
separation equipment was all functional and operating as required. The pilot flares were clean burning with
no sign of smoke.
