Stocking rates have also increased. The
increases in cow numbers, stocking rate and
total area in dairy farming has generated
greater volumes of farm dairy effluent
requiring treatment or disposal.

For reference, in the 2021-2022 year, consent holders were found to achieve a high level of environmental

detrimental effects were found at the time of the November survey. At the time of the March
survey the results suggested poor preceding water quality that may be indicative of adverse effects
associated with the landfill leachate.
Air quality monitoring showed that there were no significant adverse effects in relation to suspended
particulates, dust deposition rates or odour beyond the site boundary.
An enclosed gas flare system was installed for air quality control during the 2017-2018

Besides discussing the various details of the performance and extent of compliance by the Company, this
report also assigns them a rating for their
rating for their environmental and administrative performance during the period
under review.
Environmental performance is concerned with actual or likely effects on the receiving environment from the
activities during the monitoring year. Administrative performance is concerned with the Company’s
approach to demonstrating consent compliance in site operations and management including the timely
provision of information to Council (such as contingency plans and water take data) in accordance
diammonium
phosphate, or sulphate of ammonia but does not
include a compost, soil treatment or fertiliser that is
derived from plant or animal waste or residue and is
minimally processed (e.g. by being composted,
mixed, dried and pelleted).
What is the nitrogen cap?
The synthetic nitrogen cap applies to land in
pastoral land use. The application rate for a
contiguous landholding of synthetic nitrogen must
be no more than 190kg/ha/year:
to all that land, as
the TRC to take up to 60,480
m3 per day at a maximum rate of 740 l/s of water from Lake Mangamahoe in the
Waiwhakaiho Catchment for municipal water supply purposes.

to air emissions, and auditing of monitoring data collected by Fonterra.
During the 2014-2015 year, Fonterra demonstrated a good level of environmental
performance overall.
